About us

Arabær Horsefarm is situated in the south of Iceland, about 1 hour from Reykjavík and 25 km from Selfoss.

The owners are Hallgrímur Birkisson, Sonja Arnarsdóttir, Sævar Örn Sigurvinsson and Louise Anne Aitken.

Hallgrímur is a certified horse trainer ( FT ) with over 26 years experience. He has been successful in competitions and breeding shows and was part of the 2004 Icelandic Horse Display team at the Horse of the Year Show. He has been training horses and riders on courses in England and Scotland for several years. We welcome enquiries about training of horses and/or riders either at our farm, in Iceland or abroad.

Sævar is an experienced horse trainer. He has also been successful in competitions and breeding shows.

Rangheiður is Grímur´s and Sonja´s daughter. She has been riding horses since she was 4 years old and competed for the first time when she was 5. With her excellent riding skills, together with her determination to do the best she can, she has been very successful in competitions. She was winner of the best horse and rider combination at RM 2005 in Reykjavík, and was 2nd in the youth class at Landsmót 2006.She has also been really successful in competitions with her horse Skjálfti from Bjarnastöðum.

Sonja take care of the office work and financial affairs in teh firm. She is also a reflexologist.

Sævar and Louise have 2 kids Svandís 2 years and David 1 year. 

Louise has been training horses for many years in Scotland, Holland and Iceland. She has start to ride again after having the children.

The main focus of Arabær is the training and selling of horses and we have very good facilities. We always have a good selection of horses of all types for sale. If we do not have the horse that you are looking for we can find it for you.
